In the usa black men make up 50% of the prison population but are only 13 percent of the whole country population. So dem gonna have health lives!

However, I get the impression that the standard of education is just so abysmally low or that the blacks r just so uninterested in education as to make thier situation hopeless. I'm not sure which of these is the true reason, if not both.

If they deserve to be in prison, then let's hope the useless b****rds stay there for a very long time and give the remainder, decent ones of us a chance to make a success of our lives. The situation in the US vis. black men/people seems to be more negative than almost anywhere else in the world. One has to ask what it is about America. I have never lived there and so am unable to say!

Why is vomiting news from America like it applies to us Black brits ther only similarity we have with african americans is the colour of oue skin please keep it relevant store trying to create a race hate her ein the UK when US and UK are different with different race issues standard of living culture etc

People , you want to know why that group of black people are never Lawyers, Doctors, Solicitors, Fund Managers , Dentists, Accountants, Master Builders/ Electricians, Private Academic Tutors,Restaurant Owners, etc,etc ?
It's because they're in prison or they are lazy or more interested in taking or selling drugs and in the case of men more interested in having unprotected sex and making babies with the equally uneducated women.
Have you noticed that the women who date these men TALK LOUD, have lots of babies and live off benefits because they don't want to work, don't REALLY care about the educational welfare of their MANY children, care more about their weave-ons, braids , extentions, nail polish and Beyonce and Jay-Z than worrying about whether or not their children can get into private schools

Surely this must be a joke I mean India, China, Brazil growing economies and this is what is written about us, their are lazy people in all races however black people simple use rascism as an excuse please look at Oprah, Obama, even some black guys in I.T, Engineering etc and yet we have some lazy ones dragging us back.

Please talk about succesful black people not the ones in prison, I know what it is like to be black however I need to hear about black poeple who have made it. Wow! What a refreshing, well written response to this story. It seems like some black people are finally beginning to wake up and not jumping on the "victim mentality" bandwagon. I too have no time for black people in the UK who see,hear or speak no evil about the black on black ethnic cleansing that is happening on the streets of London which is affecting the lives of them and their families but "spit blood" when a story appears about a black person in the USA which will not affect them.
Also,is it any coincidence that the the vast majority of black people who work in financial services I.T, Engineering etc talk , dress and generally look better than the black thugs. When was the last time you saw a black person who was born in the UK working in one of the aforementioned well paid jobs speaking with a heavy Jamaican patois? Contrast that with the young UK Jamaican (because 99.99% originate from Jamaica not St.Vincent,Grenada,St. Lucia,St.kits, Antigua, Dominica,Barbados etc,etc) gangsta wannabee who rides bicycles.......LOL..... on the streets of London some of them who still wear their jeans below their bottom ...YUCK or wear their tracksuit bottoms with one trouser leg drawn up to the knee talking gangsta "style".

I bet all the other people posting comments and beating their chests whilst saying how unfair it is are black people who live in the UK LIKE PET -EAST HAM. Why don't these same people concern themselves with the shootings and stabbings that ARE HAPPENNING ON THE STREETS OF HACKNEY, BRIXTON,CROYDEN,PECKHAM,CLAPHAM,DULWICH,ETC that are in the main being instigated by young black men against other young black people. Almost every week there is ANOTHER story in The Voice, another paper about a black person who has been shot to death. I have NEVER read a comment in THE VOICE from PET-EAST HAM or other BLACK people about how disgusted they are is regarding the escalating murders amongst BLACK BRITISH PEOPLE that is happening right under their noses.

What's shocking about this article is the casual way that this research neglects to mention the therefore appalling conditions that black men (and also women) endure in a so-called civilised country like America.

The barometer here is (arguably) the data which suggests that white men are "12 percent more likely to die in prison than outside".

Assuming that this should also (in all probability) be the same for black men were all things equal, that therefore says more about how bad the living conditions are OUTSIDE of prison for black men in the USA than it does about how 'healthy' it is for them to be inside!

PLEASE step up your game, The Voice. As the other poster said, this research says nothing about the experience of black men in the UK yet there is no proper presentation of this.

Your headline says: "‘Black men healthier in prison’" - whereas the article itself opens with "A NEW STUDY has found that black prisoners are less likely to die from ‘health and lifestyle’ related illnesses, than those on the outside."

These two things are not necessarily the same - and I can't help but feel that you have chosen to headline this story in this way to deliberately be inflammatory rather than to raise awareness.

This is obvious because they would get healthcare within prison and not on the outside. Why do you continue to print negative statements in this paper live longer on death row is that the aim of black American men?

Fact: Black men in prison are healthier than black men outside prison! This shows a lot about what to be done in order to make the real world a normal place for black diaspora.
