‘Daniel Sturridge can reach Luis Suarez’s level’

GOAL MAN: Daniel Sturridge (PA)

LIVERPOOL BOSS Brendan Rodgers thinks striker Daniel Sturridge has what it takes to reach the quality of fellow hitman Luis Suarez.

The former Chelsea forward only just made his comeback from injury but showed no signs of rust during his cameo last weekend (Jan 12) against Stoke, in which he set one up for Suarez before scoring himself to help the Reds win 5-3.

Both players have formed a formidable partnership for the Merseyside club, and their goals helped Liverpool set the pace at the top of the league earlier this season.

“My opinion about Daniel has only been reinforced during the time I have worked with him”, Rodgers said.

“Daniel has a wonderful opportunity over the next couple of years to become world class.”

He added: “He has every tool he needs to be a world-class striker, similar to Luis Suarez.

“He came on during the game last weekend and was superb, which is a great credit to him on how focused he has been in getting back to full fitness.”

Speaking about Liverpool’s chances of claiming their first Premier League title, the Reds’ manager said: “It's very, very close at the top, and since Christmas Day, the lead has changed hands a few times.

“For us, it's a case of continuing to improve. We have to maintain focus and concentration. We've got to keep the standards high.”
