‘Money’ Mayweather tops sport rich list

CHAMPION: Mayweather

ALTHOUGH HE is currently incarcerated for assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Forbes magazine have confirmed that Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather is the world’s highest-paid athlete of the past 12 months.

The 35-year-old undefeated five-weight world champion fought twice in the space of a year against Victor Ortiz and Miguel Cotto and, according to Forbes, netted a total of £54m.

Mayweather knocked golf’s Tiger Woods off of top spot. It is the first time a sportsperson has earned more money in a year than Woods since 2001.

The 36-year-old Woods was third on the list with roughly £38m, which was £10m less than the previous 12 months.

Mayweather’s welterweight rival Manny ‘Pacman’ Pacquiao was second on the list with £39,579,468. The Filipino earned roughly £35.7m in total against Juan Manuel Marquez and Timothy Bradley.

Further millions were made through endorsements with Nike, Hewlett-Packard, Monster Energy and Hennessy.
