14-year-old girl blinded by coloured contact lenses

SCARRED: Erica Barnes

A TEENAGE girl has lost the sight in one eye after developing an infection brought on by wearing contact lenses.

Erica Barnes, 14, whose right eye was left severely scarred because she forget to remove the hazel-coloured lenses before going to sleep, will have to undergo a cornea transplant to restore her sight.

The $20 purchase, brought in New York store, were illegally sold to the teen as no optician was present at the time of sale.

After surgery, Doctors expect Barnes who has been in hospital for two weeks to make a full recovery, but acknowledge some damage can be permanent.
