Adebayor baiters "went too far"

DISTRESSED: Emmanuel Adebayor just moments after the gun attack on the Togo team bus

THE TOGO goalkeeper who was shot during the Africa Cup of Nations last year has said that Arsenal fans went too far with the abusive chanting directed at Emmanuel Adebayor.

Adebayor was taunted by some Arsenal fans about the Togo team being attacked during the north London derby last Sunday.

Kodjovi Obilale was shot twice in the back during the machine gun attack as it crossed from the Republic of Congo into Angola on January 8, two days before the start of the tournament. Two members of the Togo party were also killed in the attack. Now Obilale has hit back at the offending Arsenal fans.

“I was hurt on that bus. Those people should be severely punished. By chanting that stuff it's as if they're condoning terrorism. It's very bad, they went too far. People lost their lives. We're talking about a loss of life. I don't even know what Adebayor has done wrong. He plays football that's all."

Obilale added: "They should carry out an investigation and suspend those involved. If you let them get away with this, it'll just degenerate further."

Both Tottenham and Arsenal have subsequently joined forces in an attempt to identify and punish the guilty fans.
