Ali exhibition to be launched in London

CHARISMA: Ali celebrates beating Sonny Liston in 1964

ARTWORK OF arguably the greatest sportsman of all time, Muhammad Ali, will be on display in London during the Paralympic and Olympic Games.

The exhibition, named In The Ring With Ali, will take place at the Forman’s Smokehouse Galley in Hackney, east London from July 20-26 and August 13-28 and celebrates his 70th birthday.

All of the artwork from the exhibition will be available on sale with a percentage of the profits being donated to Amnesty International, Parkinsons Research and a local east London boxing club.

Ali first rose to prominence after winning gold at the 1960 Rome Olympic Games in the amateurs before going on to be crowned world heavyweight champion three times as a professional.

But it was Ali’s charm and charisma outside of the ring that captivated the masses.

Nicknamed ‘The Louisville Lip’ and ‘The Greatest’, Ali was a civil rights campaigner in the 60s and has raised millions of pounds for a number of charities over the years through his humanitarian work.

An estimated 1,200 visitors a day are expected to see the exhibition, which is located near the Olympic Stadium in Stratford.
