DETERMINED: Alicia Keys
SINGER AND actor Alicia Keys raised over £812,000 for charity on December 6 by hosting her ninth annual Black Ball event at the Apollo Theatre in New York.
The Girl on Fire hit-maker’s function raised money for her Keep a Child Alive campaign, which helps youngsters affected by AIDS and HIV.
Keys, 31, was forced to postpone the ball last month following Hurricane Sandy in October.
But that only made her more determined to ensure that the benefit, which was hosted by Whoopi Goldberg, took place.
"There are places in the world where Keep a Child Alive serves where they have a Hurricane Sandy every day,” said Keys.
“They don't have electricity, they don't have heat... and that made me more invigorated to make sure this Black Ball happened.”
