TRAGEDY: Singer Jennifer Hudson's family was murdered in 2008
THE MAN ACCUSED of killing Jennifer Hudson's family members has requested to speak to the singer, his lawyers have revealed.
Defense attorneys for William Balfour, 30, are believed to want to talk to the singer about a text she may have exchanged with her mother just before the murders, the Chicago Sun-Times has reported.
The Stpotlight star's mother Darnell Donerson and brother Jason were shot at the family home in Chicago in October 2008 and Julian, the Oscar winner's seven-year-old nephew, was found dead in the back of an SUV three days later. He had also been shot.
The 30-year-old recently revealed in an interview with Ebony magazine that a last-minute decision to fly and visit her fiancé, David Otunga Jr, in Florida may have saved her life.
"I flew out to see him, that's why I'm still here, that's one of the things that saved my life," Hudson told the magazine.
"Because I could have been home with my mum then, [but] he wanted me to come out to Florida with him instead of going to Chicago," she added.
Balfour, who has been jailed since his arrest in December 2008, faces three counts of first-degree murder and one count of home invasion. His trial has been set for April.
