TROUBLE: American Airlines to cut 14,000 staff?
AMERICAN AIRLINES [AA] are expected to cut up to 14,000 jobs this year, say reports.
AA's CEO, Thomas W. Horton, has said the company plans to reduce their spending by more than $2 billion and reduce labour costs by 20 percent after facing bankruptcy last November, reports blackmediascoop.
In December Horton announced that the business, which employs around 88,000 people, would be forced to let staff go in 2012.
In a letter to employees, he reportedly wrote: “We are going to use the restructuring process to make the necessary changes to meet our challenges head-on and capitalize fully on the solid foundation we’ve put in place."
While AA has yet to officially announce the alleged cuts, it has been rumoured that internal meetings on the matter are underway.
Laura Glading, president of the flight attendants’ union, said: “I expect dismay and outrage from our membership as details of the proposal are made public."
