American Idol is coming back to our TV screens

THE NEW CLASSIC: 'American Idol' 2007 winner Jordin Sparks

ABC, HOME to hit shows 'Scandal', 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' and 'Black-Ish' has struck a deal to obtain the rights for cancelled Fox reality show, American Idol.

Much to many fans' delight, the cult series that bought Grammy winner Fantasia Barrino to the fore as well as Grammy nominees Jordin Sparks and Ruben Studdard to name a few; will be back on TV soon, although no date has been confirmed.

President of ABC Entertainment Channing Dungey said:

“American Idol is a pop-culture staple that left the air too soon.

“ABC is the right home to reignite the fan base. We are thrilled viewers will once again share in these inspiring stories of people realising their dreams.”

Disney World attracted thousands to its American Idol Experience at the Florida theme park before closing the attraction in 2014. Disney co-chairman Ben Sherwood commented:

“‘Idol is an entertainment icon, and now it will air where it belongs, in ABC’s lineup of addictive fan favourites alongside Dancing with the Stars and The Bachelor.

“America, get ready for the return of a bigger, bolder and better-than-ever Idol.”
