AMERICAN NEWS anchor Amanda Davis died yesterday after suffering a 'massive, spontaneous' stroke whilst on the way to her stepfather's funeral.

Davis, who presented the morning news on CBS46, was rushed to the hospital on Tuesday (26 December) after she had the medical emergency at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. According to the station, she died the following evening.

Last week, the news anchor posted on Twitter that her “pops” had died. She was at the airport, heading to Texas for the funeral which took place on Wednesday (27 December), when she suffered the stroke.

There has been an outpouring of grief following this sad news.

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed tweeted: “Saddened to hear about the sudden passing of Atlanta news icon, Amanda Davis. Our thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones during this difficult time. She will truly be missed.”

"I was saddened to hear about the passing of Amanda Davis. You were an Atlanta news staple. You will be missed. My prayers and heart are with your loved ones. @cbs46," actor/director Tyler Perry tweeted.

Davis was a news anchor in Atlanta for over 30 years and previously worked at FOX5 Atlanta, where she helped launch Good Day Atlanta in 1992. She became a main anchor five years later, according to FOX5, but retired from the station in 2013.

Davis is survived by her mother and daughter.
