Aretha Franklin to donate hotel rooms to Flint residents

CHARITABLE: Aretha Franklin

ICONIC SINGER has joined the relief effort to help the residents of Flint, Michigan, as they deal with the water crisis that has resulted in toxic levels of lead in their drinking water.

Franklin has vowed to donate rooms for between 25 and 50 people at the Holiday Inn in Southfield, Detroit, and she also plans to bring meals to residents provided by the local Coney Island restaurant.

Her father’s church, New Bethel Baptist, will assist in screening the individuals who participate, according to reports.

“Detroiters usually come to the aid of Detroiters - and Flint is certainly regarded as Detroit,” Franklin said in an interview. “Hang in there.”

Many big names and local organisations have offered a helping hand to Flint during this challenging time.

Singer Cher has donated 180,000 bottles of water, while America Muslim group Who is Hussain? have sent 30,000.

Hip-hop mogul P Diddy has also joined the relief effort to aide the residents of Flint. Diddy, real name Sean Combs, teamed up with actor Mark Wahlberg, Wiz Khalifa and Michigan native Eminem, to donate one million bottles of AQUAhydrate water to the town.

Fellow rapper The Game also dug deep, making a $1 million donation to the town.
