DEATH: Man in custody over death of Aarron McKoy who was shot and killed while celebrating his 22nd birthday
POLICE HAVE arrested a man in connection with the murder of Aarron McKoy, who was killed in east London on New Year's Day (Jan 1).
The unidentified suspect, 22, is currently being held in custody on suspicion of shooting the victim, who was out celebrating his 22nd birthday in Clerkenwell, EC1.
At around 4am on Sunday (Jan 1) McKoy was found by police suffering from gunshot wounds, shortly after he left the Clerkenwell House Wine Bar, in Hatton Wall.
It is believed that an altercation took place in the venue, and officers have said they are investigating this as the motive for the murder.
DCI, John Crossley, of Trident said: "The venue was very busy going into the early hours of New Year's Day and we are extremely keen to talk to anyone who was in attendance."
"If you were there and noticed a dispute taking place I would urge you to get in touch as soon as possible, to enable us to bring those responsible to justice."
He added: "I would also like to appeal for those with businesses in the area to make contact, so that we can access their premises and retrieve CCTV footage. It is essential that we view any CCTV as soon as possible to see if anything of use to the inquiry can be gleaned."
