Arsenal consider £15m Demba Ba bid

TRANSFER TARGET: Chelsea's Demba Ba (PA)

ARSENAL’S DEFEAT to Manchester United over the weekend has got Gunners boss Arsene Wenger desperately looking for a plan B up front, and Chelsea’s Demba Ba could be his target.

The north London club and current Premier League leaders want cover for main forward Olivier Giroud, and reports suggest Wenger may offer the Blues £15m for Demba Ba in January to ensure he does not have to rely on Nicklas Bendtner if Giroud gets injured.

Any problems or injury concerns for the Frenchman would seriously undermine Arsenal’s ability to remain in the title race, and Bendtner’s rare appearances on the pitch have not filled his manager with confidence.

The 28-year-old Ba, a Senegal international, was understood to be a target for the Gunners over the summer, and a loan move almost materialised. However, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho apparently vetoed the deal after Arsenal signed Mesut Ozil, because he feared offloading Ba would make Arsenal too strong.

Ba has so far seen little playing time under Mourinho, and is third choice behind Fernando Torres and Samuel Eto’o at Stamford Bridge.

A move across London would likely offer Ba more chances to make the starting XI, with Giroud remaining Wenger’s first option.

West Ham are also understood to be keen on securing the services of Ba.
