Aston Villa sign up Jamaican-born youngster

NEW DEAL: Daniel Johnson

JAMAICAN-BORN FOOTBALLER Daniel Johnson has signed a two-year deal with Aston Villa, the club has announced.

The 20-year-old midfielder has not yet featured for the senior team – he joined the Villan’s academy in 2010, and last season was loaned out to lower league side Yeovil.

Johnson told the club’s official website: “I'm really happy to have signed the new contract.

“These are exciting times at the club at the moment, you can see where the manager [Paul Lambert] wants to go with it and what he's trying to do, and it's really good.

“I'm really looking forward to coming back into training and I'm hoping that this year can be even better for me and for the team.”

In recent seasons, Villa has been placing a greater emphasis on nurturing its youth players, with several first-team players having now come through the academy system, such as players like Nathan Baker and Andreas Weimann.
