HE’S BACK: Mclean

IT HAS been two years since McLean has released a song, 2013 should mark his sensational return to the industry with the soon-to-be released track Where You Been?

Undoubtedly a question he has been asked a lot over the last 24 months, the singer made his debut in the music scene in 2009 and came to prominence in 2010 with the top 10 hit My Name. But 2010 also marked the end of McLean’s contract with Atlantic Record’s Asylum imprint label after only two years with the company.

He has since been off the public radar, and although the London-born artist’s new track would have you believe that he has been flying high in the sky for the last two years, the musician has actually remained as down to earth as ever.

“I’ve been away for a while, in 2010 my contract finished with my record label before I had a chance to release the album. So there was a period when we didn’t know what we were going to do, in the end we decided to go our separate ways. That took quite a long time to hash out and since then I haven’t gone back to work. I decided to take a break, I had another daughter and I was doing my dad thing until last summer I decided to have some me time,” said the father of two.

Now working independently Mclean’s latest offering is a collaboration with UK rapper Bigz, and the singer is very excited about the projects prospects. Hoping to repeat what he describes as his career highlight; McLean has set his sights on breaking into the charts and getting a top 10 hit.

Still, the vocalist insists that he will stick with R&B and says he refuses to resort to gimmicks to sell music.

“This venture is R&B, there are no house tracks, it’s not a direction I am trying to go in now, and I’m going to do music that inspires me. I’m back - be aware, there’s more to come.”
