Barack Obama: 'Michelle would divorce me if I ran again'

PRESIDENT BARACK Obama has revealed that the women in life are more than ready to move on from a life in the spotlight admitting that the First Lady Michelle Obama is not particularly a fan of politics.

Appearing on prime-time talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live, the President joked that an attempt to run for a third term would most likely end his marriage.

He said: “Personally, for me, if I were able to run for a third time, Michelle would divorce me. So it’s useful that I don’t have that choice to make.”

US presidents are constituently prohibited from serving more than two four-year terms in office.

“I know you have to leave, but can we keep her for another four years?,” Kimmel joked.

“[Michelle] is spectacular but [she] was never wild about politics,” Obama said of his wife, who has been hailed as the saving grace of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.

Obama said: “Michelle once explained to me, ‘I try to organise my life, not to have a lot of mess around and politics is just a big mess.’”

The father-of-two added that the same sentiments are shared by his teenage daughters, Sasha and Malia, who have grown up in the public eye.

“All the women in my life are looking forward to being able to live a more normal life,” Obama said.

After the presidency, Obama shared that the family intends on remaining in Washington D.C. where his youngest daughter Sasha is currently enrolled as a high school student.

The soon to be former president is also looking forward to some time out.

He said: “I’m like the old guy at the bar where you went to high school. Just kind of hanging around [who] still thinks he’s cool.”
