The barber behind Britain’s sporting barnets

QUICK SNIP: Daniel Johnson working on a client

WHILE SPURS star Gareth Bale is the name everyone in football is talking about, his barber is busy carving out a reputation of his own.

Known as the ‘hair guru’, Daniel Johnson is the man behind the Tottenham whizz kid’s distinctive hairstyle. He is responsible as well for carving the hairlines of the likes of Wayne Rooney and Mario Balotelli.

Now, the ambitious 31-year-old has expressed an interest in reshaping a few disconcerting haircuts of some of the world’s fastest drivers.

“I would love to work with some of the guys from Formula One. They look ok before the race, but when they take their helmets off their hair can look terrible,” Johnson joked.

The Hertfordshire-based coiffeur has travelled the world styling the hair of royalties and celebrities, and is now hoping to use his experience to teach aspiring hairdressers the craft through his recently-opened grooming salon and barber academy in Watford.

Inspired by the likes of Virgin founder Richard Branson and the world’s highest-paid sportsman, boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr, Johnson aims to expand his training school worldwide.

AMBITIOUS

“I am ambitious and driven. I started with virtually nothing. I was 16 and had a giro cheque worth £86.49. My mind was set to open a business and within four weeks I had made around £6,000.

“I started out cutting the hair of lower league footballers and as their careers have risen, so has mine. I’m not content though, I want to build it into a multi-million pound brand recognised worldwide.”

However, despite rumours of future reality TV show appearances being on the horizon, Johnson remains focused on what he does best – cutting hair.

“It’s all about consistency. I cannot mess up one hair cut. I’m at a level now where I deal with the good and the great. Therefore, I have to be the best at what I do, every single day. A big challenge, yes, but something I love.”
