BBC Radio London’s Eddie Nestor to receive MBE

THE REAL MCCOY: Eddie Nestor's contribution to broadcasting and charity will be recognised.

BBC RADIO London presenter Eddie Nestor said it is an “absolute honour” to receive an MBE in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List.

The 53-year-old broadcaster, actor and comedian from Hackney, East London, has presented BBC Radio London’s Drivetime programme since 2003.

He said: “It is an absolute honour to receive this wonderful award. To be gifted the opportunity to reach out and touch people’s lives through the radio is something I could only have dreamed of.

“I’ve always believed in charity but when I had cancer in 2007, I made a deal (with whomever) that if I survived, I would do something every year to raise money for worthy causes. They include climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, running the London marathon, jumping from a plane, and doing a six-pack challenge. Ten years on this is unbelievable. What a thing to be able to share with your children.”

Listen to Eddie Nestor on BBC Radio London weekdays 4.00-7.00pm on 94.9FM, digital and www.bbc.co.uk/london
