The best false lash looks and how to achieve them

THE EYES HAVE IT: Long lashes can be natural or dramatic (photo credit: Makeup Geek)

FALSE LASHES have become a staple piece in every girl’s make-up bag. No make-up look is complete without long, luscious lashes.

There are now many options to increase the length and fullness of lashes, from strip, individual, Russian Volume and beyond.

The Voice's Chantelle Kimberley takes a look at celebrity eyelash trends and brings you the best options so you can recreate your favourite looks. Whether you’re looking for a more understated or dramatic look, we’ve got you covered...

Ciara

Ciara doesn’t like to stick to a particular style of lash, but here she’s gone for a very subtle look and opted for her own natural lash. To enhance your own natural lash, LVL (length volume lift) can be a great option. A setting serum is used to straighten the natural lash from the root, lifting and curling them upwards. The lashes are then tinted, creating the look of mascara.

Naomie Harris

Naomie Harris is a natural beauty, so does not need much to enhance her face. Here, she has gone for strip lashes, a popular option for most people. Strip lashes are simple to apply and perfect for a night out. Ardell Wispie will definitely give you this natural but fuller look, while plenty of other ranges are available on the high street.

Janelle Monáe

Timeless beauty Janelle Monáe has gone for a classic look and kept it somewhat natural. This look can easily be created with YSL Faux Lash Effect mascara. For those not sure about having lashes applied, this mascara is a great alternative as it gives the look of false lashes and allows you to go as natural or dramatic as you like depending on the occasion.

Beyoncé

Beyoncé often enough goes for a natural lash, keeping it simple by finishing the look off with black eyeliner. To create this look, try eyelash tinting to enhance one's natural lash. Tinting is applying a special dye to the lash to emphasise and give the look of longer lashes. This can be done in a salon or using an at-home kit.

Rihanna

Rihanna isn’t one to hold back and she makes no exception when it comes to her lashes – the fuller the better. To recreate this dramatic look, go for Russian Volume individual lashes. They will give you a long-lasting full lash, which you can build-up depending on your preference.

How to achieve these looks:

If you’re looking for longer-lasting lashes for a special occasion, individual lashes are the perfect option. They are applied one-by-one and come in flares or small clusters. They are available in a variety of lengths – usually short, medium and long – giving you the freedom to carry on as normal as they feel completely weightless and last for up to five weeks with the appropriate aftercare.

London brand Eylure’s range has gone on to include their Dylash dye kit, giving you the option to try a salon treatment in the comfort of your own home. Dylash boasts a new generation of colours especially developed for lashes. The long-lasting silver nitrate lash dye is a no-mix formula. Simply apply the colour and then apply the developer. It’s that easy!
