US SINGER Beyoncé been accused of lip-synching the US National Anthem at President Barack Obama's inauguration on Monday (Jan 21).
The superstar is said to have mimed The Star-Spangled Banner during the event, with a spokeswoman for the Marine Corp Band telling The Times that recording a backing track is "standard procedure".
She also reportedly revealed that the 31-year-old decided to use the studio-recorded version rather than sing live.
The spokeswoman said: "We did pre-record it and it was Beyoncé’s decision at the last minute to go with the pre-recorded version.”
“We pre-recorded all music as a matter of course and have done since time immemorial. This is our 54th inauguration…There is no question of there not being any music – it’s not because the performer cannot do it," she added.
Beyoncé has yet to make a comment on the controversy.
