Beyoncé picks up top award at the MTV Video Music Awards

BIG WIN: Beyoncé struck gold at the MTV Video Music Awards by winning in four categories

R&B SINGER Beyoncé picked up the 2014 Michael Jackson Vanguard award following an epic closing performance at this year's MTV Video Music Awards ceremony.

After a two-hour show featuring performances from artists including Usher and Nicki Minaj, Beyoncé was joined onstage by her beaming husband Jay Z and daughter Blue Ivy.

As she accepted the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award, she kissed her daughter and husband.

Bringing the singer close to tears, Blue Ivy cheered "go mummy!" before Jay Z handed the award to "the greatest living entertainer".

“I’m so full. I have nothing to say but I am filled with so much gratitude,” she told the crowd as they chanted her name repeatedly.

Bey, 32, also took home VMAs for Best Cinematography and Best Video With A Social Message for Pretty Hurts as well as Best Collaboration for Drunk In Love with Jay Z.

To close the ceremony, which was held at The Forum in Inglewood, California, Beyoncé brought the house down with an epic, nearly 20-minute climactic performance.
