Beyoncé surprises fans with new album

SURPRISE: Beyoncé shocked fans with the release of her fifth studio album

BEYONCÉ SHOCKED fans yesterday with the surprise release of her new self-titled visual album.

The album, which is the fifth from the singer, features 14 new songs and 17 music videos and comes complete with appearances from the star's friends and family including rapper husband Jay Z, her mother and her Destiny's Child bandmates Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams.

Bey also dedicates the track Blue to one-year-old daughter Blue Ivy, who also features in the song.

Announcing the news on Facebook by video montage, she explained the visual aspect to her latest work.

“I see music. It’s more than just what I hear. When I’m connected to something, I immediately see a visual or a series of images that are tied to a feeling or an emotion, a memory from my childhood, thoughts about life, my dreams or my fantasies. And they’re all connected to the music.”

She continued: “Now people only listen to a few seconds of song on the iPods and they don’t really invest in the whole experience. It’s all about the single, and the hype. It’s so much that gets between the music and the art and the fans. I felt like, I don’t want anybody to get the message, when my record is coming out. I just want this to come out when it’s ready and from me to my fans.”

This morning, excited Beyonce fans took to Twitter unofficially naming today 'BeyDay' to celebrate the new album. #Beyonce and #BlueIvy are both currently ‘trending’ on the social media site.

The album release comes just a few days after the 32-year-old singer announced new UK tour dates for next year.
