Bill Cosby will face no charges over 1974 rape allegations

STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS: Bill Cosby

BILL COSBY will face no charges over allegations he sexually assaulted a teenage girl in 1974, US prosecutors say.

Judy Huth alleges that 77-year-old molested her when she was 15 years old, the statute of limitations, which restricts the length of time in which legal action can be taken after an alleged crime has been committed, has been cited.

Huth, who claims she was forced by Cosby to perform a sex act on him at the Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles, is one of at least 15 women who since early November have alleged that the comedian sexually assaulted them.

Most of the women concerned say that the comedian drugged them before assaulting them.

The comedian's lawyers have denied most of the allegations while dismissing others as either being discredited or decades old.

Huth has been accused by Cosby's lawyer of trying to extort $250,000 from the star before she decided to sue - he also accused her of trying to sell her story to a tabloid a decade ago.

Yesterday (Dec 17), Cosby's wife Camille spoke for the first time to defend her "wonderful husband" against claims of sexual assault.

"He is the man you thought you knew," Mrs Cosby said in a statement.

Mrs Cosby, who has been married to the comedian for 50 years, said the media's portrayal of Cosby was a "portrait" of a man she "didn't know".

Her comments followed those of her husband's the day before, who broke his month-long silence since claims surfaced to call on the support of black media.

"Let me say this. I only expect the black media to uphold the standards of excellence in journalism and when you do that you have to go in with a neutral mind," he told the New York Post's Page Six

He also praised Camille, who has stood by him throughout the controversy.

"Love and the strength of womanhood," he said. "Let me say it again, love and the strength of womanhood. And, you could reverse it, the strength of womanhood and love."
