MARCH: Black senior citizens protest over council eviction order

HARINGEY COUNCIL in north London has evicted a black community group from the Welbourne Centre in Tottenham, over claimed rent arrears.

The Caribbean Senior Citizens Association (CSCA), called a demonstration on Wednesday (Sep 21) against the decision to kick them out of the north-London community centre, which is used for meetings and funerals.

Starting with a rally outside Wood Green tube station, the demonstrators marched to the council offices at Alexandra House in Station Road, and then marched up the High Road to the Civic Centre to hand in a letter to council leader Cllr Claire Kober.

CSCA chair Paul Leslie claims that the council took three elderly members, who are no longer part of the organising committee, to court over the unpaid rent.

In the letter to Cllr Kober, Mr Leslie wrote: “To bring three elderly, retired and sick individuals to court for arrears of rent for a charity in which none of them have had any on-hand dealings for several years, beggars belief.”

People say I do'nt like the MP from that area David Lammy,I mean what does this man do come some one tell me,this man could have saved Totanham from the riots by addressing the isuse that the family and friends of Mark Duggen had but where was he,the only time you saw him was when he was walking down the street with a few Jewish men looking at thier burnt out shops,If he had just gone to the police station and addressed his own people things would have been so different fact.

I recall that under Rev Carter at Wood Green New Testament Church of God that there was an excellent luncheon club - now 20 years later it seems to be just a glorified corporate venue - it should be all over this
