Black Stars to appoint Avram Grant as head coach

COACH: Avram Grant (PA)

GHANA ARE on the verge of handing Avram Grant the role of head coach, according to media reports.

The 59-year-old ex-Chelsea boss, who was a penalty kick away from claiming the Champions League with the Blues in 2008, is one of the front-runners for the top job with the Black Stars.

The Israeli was managing his native national side four years ago, but now could experience his first taste of African football with the West Africans with only financial terms to be agreed between the two parties.

Ghana football chief Kwesi Nyantakyi told BBC Sport: “If we reach an agreement with him we'll appoint him as Black Stars coach.

“If we don't reach an agreement with him, we'll look at our second option.”

He added: “We're going to engage Grant on the details of the job requirement and expectations which will span from remuneration, conditions of service and others.

“We are going to re-negotiate effectively. We know his salary expectation but we'd like to see if we can beat it down further.”

If Grant gets the job, he will be replacing James Kwesi Appiah, who was sacked following this year’s first round of Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
