KILLED: Jordan Davis
A BLACK teenager was shot and killed by a 45-year-old white businessman following a row over loud music, it has been claimed.
Early reports say that 17-year-old Jordan Davis was hit at least twice by bullets fired from Michael Dunn's gun outside a convenience store in Jacksonville, Florida.
The shooting occurred after Mr Dunn approached the teen to complain about loud music coming from the car he was seated in with friends.
"Jordan and Dunn exchanged words, and Dunn pulled a gun and shot eight or nine times, striking jordan twice. No one else was hurt," said Lieutenant Rob Schoonover.
No firearms were found in the victim's car.
Dunn, whose girlfriend was buying goods from the convenience store, was in town for his son's wedding. He left the scene an returned to his hotel, but was later traced following CCTV footage. He is currently in custody.
The death of the 17-year-old has revived racial tensions in the state. In February unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin was shot dead by Hispanic neighbourhood watchman George Zimmerman.
Jordan's mother, Lucia McBath, said she doesn't want her son's death to be treated as a hate crime.
She told Global Grind: We don't know where he [Dunn] was or what kind of dark place place he was in at that moment but something snapped in that man. Something snapped in him, so we are not looking at it as a hate crime because that's not going to honour Jordan."
