Blessed with beautiful style

LOVELY IN LILAC: A model wears clothes from Cerrura Fashions

A LONDON-based fashion boutique is set to launch a clothing collection designed specifically for female pastors and first ladies.

Cerrura Fashions said their Every Day Blessed line will tap into an overlooked market.
Managing Director Cecilia Dewu told The Voice: “Every Day Blessed is more than just fashion.

“It is based on a wider initiative to give pastors confidence as they give presentations, minister and counsel. We want to show them how to look good, feel good and inspire.”

The idea arose from feedback from customers who liked the outfits in store that were elegant, modest and ideal for their needs.

When the team looked at the feedback sheets, they found that several respondents were pastors, first ladies and other women who held prominent positions in their respective churches.

Dewu, also a pastor of On The Rock International Ministries realised she could fill this unique gap in the women’s clothing market.

“There is a dress code that is about modesty and ensuring that some parts of the body are not over exposed. Trousers and outfits with slits, for example, should be avoided,” Dewu explained.

“Some people can get offended in how you dress as a pastor and one needs to be mindful of this.”

The family run business will draw on its expertise and offer consultations during open evenings along with other initiatives that have an educational focus.

Operations manager Ralph Dewu said: “Our strength is building relationships with our customers so that they return. We provide practical advice on what suits each lady and this is based on colour and body shape. With pastors, we will ensure that they are covered, modest and highly presentable.”

There is anticipation about the initiative and where it can lead.

It comes at a time when there is a huge interest in church outfits for pastors as highlighted by online blogs and acclaimed designer label Modern Priestwear in the United States.

Cerrura Fashions has been in business for almost a decade.

It remains the only store in Fonthill Road, in Finsbury Park, north London, to focus on both African and European clothing.

It is also one of the few stores in the area to stock suits and plus-sized outfits – a masterstroke given that the average dress size in Britain is a size 16.

‘We’re especially pleased with our range for women with a fuller figure and the response is excellent. We believe we all have the right to look good without compromise, ” added Ms Dewu.

With the special occasions side of the business established along with outfits for all ages, a clothing line for pastors including white suits is the next step for a business built on faith and fellowship.

She continued: “There is a passage in the Bible that says, ‘you shall make holy garments for Aaron your brother, for glory and for beauty’. We aim to make every woman who walks into our store feel glorious, beautiful and Every Day Blessed.”
