Blissett crashes out at Silverstone

CALM BEFORE THE STORM: Blissett in his Morgan Roadster

EX FOOTBALLER Luther Blissett emerged unharmed from a spectacular accident during the Celebrity Challenge at the recent Silverstone Classic.

The former Watford and England striker crashed out on the first lap in spectacular fashion as he lost control. He was unhurt apart from bruises.

Holby City actor Jimmy Akingbola also failed to find glory. Akingbola was to crash out during qualifying.

The celebrity honours went to rock royalty Rick Parfitt Jnr who beat chef Heston Blumenthal and dancer Brendan Cole in an exciting race in Morgan Roadster lightweight race cars.

To date the Celebrity Challenge already has raised £11,790 for the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK.

Records tumbled as the Silverstone Classic reached new heights with a total of 1104 race entries and more than 8,000 classic cars on display.

The 2011 Silverstone Classic not only proudly lived up to its claim of being the 'the world's biggest classic racing festival' but also laid claim to being by far the biggest race meeting ever staged in international motor racing history.
