Britain is top destination for immigrants

NEW STUDY: Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development report shows increase of people seeking permanent stay in the UK

BRITAIN IS the number one European destination for immigrants looking for permanent stay, a new study reveals.

While most countries saw declines in permanent migration in 2009, a report by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) shows that Britain is one of the few countries where the level of those seeking permanent stay has increased.

The latest figures show that 397,900 foreigners decided to live in Britain 2009 – second only to the US.

The OECD study shows that the 14 percent rise from the previous year was largely due to family reunions to Britain and the large number of foreign students living here.
