Burrell is set to return unopposed as president of the JFF

RE-ELECTION: Captain Horace Burrell

CAPTAIN HORACE Burrell is set to return unopposed as president of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), as the only man seeking to challenge him for the presidency at next month's elections, Orville Powell, did not get the required nominations.

According to a release issued by the JFF, all 13 parish associations participated in the nomination process for the election of officers to its executive body for the upcoming elections.

Burrell was nominated by 11 of the parish associations for the post of president, while Powell only secured one nomination. The biggest confederation, the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA), according to the JFF release, "abstained from nominating a candidate for this position".

To become eligible for the challenge, Powell was required - under the JFF constitution - to be nominated by at least four parish associations. In the final analysis, he was nominated by only the St Ann Football Association.

Powell is a former St James Football Association president and was also chairman of the western confederation, which includes the parishes of St James, Trelawny, Hanover and Westmoreland.

He is the owner of Red Stripe Premier League outfit, Montego Bay United Football Club, which won the title in 2014-15 and ended runners-up last season.

For the post of vice-president, six persons were nominated, but only four are eligible for election having secured at least four votes, the minimum required.

Bruce Gaynor (St James), Michael Ricketts (Clarendon) and Raymond Anderson (St Mary) all received 11 nominations, while Garfield Sinclair (St Catherine) received four nominations. The other persons, Mark Bennett (KSAFA) and Danny Beckford (St Ann), received one nomination apiece.

The JFF's election of officers will take place at a special general meeting on December 20, at the federation's secretariat in New Kingston.
