CAF confirms that Morocco will not host 2015 Cup of Nations

LOOKING FOR PASTURES NEW: CAF president Issa Hayatou

THE CONFEDERATION of African (CAF) Football has confirmed that Morocco will not host next year’s African Cup of Nations due to their fear of the Ebola outbreak, with the possible impact of mass movement of fans across the continent.

However CAF, led by president Issa Hayatou, has not announced a new venue for the event, which will still take place between January 17 - February 18.

Morocco had requested that the tournament be postponed until 2016 but that was rejected by CAF. Three nations have shown interest in hosting the tournament, but Egypt has confirmed they would not be one of them.

Morocco will still host the World Club Championship in December. African’s two representatives in that tournament are from Morocco and Algeria.

CAF’s executive committee has also confirmed that Morocco has been automatically disqualified from the 2015 African Cup of Nations.
