OVER THE last four years, Candy Mas have cemented its place as one of Notting Hill Carnival’s most popular fixtures. This year, on Sunday 27th August, the band was awarded with first place in the CMA’s ‘Soca on the move’ competition, judged by the London Notting Hill Carnival Enterprise Trust.

The band’s theme was ‘Bubble Bath: Cleaning up the act’ and that, they certainly did. Candy Mas operatives DJ Shak, DJ Cappa Chino, Big Business & DJ Buju told The Voice that they were proud of this accomplishment.

Shak Callender, the founder of Candy Mas, said: “I am honoured that, through God’s blessings, Candy Mas has been voted number one in this category. It takes a team to achieve big things and we have an amazing one. Teamwork makes the dream work.

“Additionally, I would like to give a shout out to Tippa Audio for keeping us moving, with the right carnival spirit.

“I’d also like to acknowledge DJ Notorious, DJ Youngchow, DJ Dukes, CappaChino, Keety general, Almighty Soundz, Sandra, Mr C, Pulse 88 radio; our sponsors JN Money and The Voice newspaper.”

It is a just reward for the band’s consistent hard work, innovation and infectiously positive energy.

This year, Candy Mas operated in partnership with The Voice newspaper, Venture Community Association and the Community Carnival Arts project, sponsored by Catalyst housing; who all played a major part in this victory.

Next year will see Candy Mas celebrating the theme ‘Intensity: Where all Elements collide’.
