HIGH FASHION: Caribbean Collections makes London Fashion Week Debut
THIRTEEN CARIBBEAN designers are set to debut their fashion collections at this year's London Fashion Week (LFW).
Jamaican-based designer, Juliette Dyke and Haitian-born, Phelicia Dell, are just some of the big names tipped to showcase at the prestigious exhibition, which is being supported by the Caribbean Fashion Industry Association (CFIA).
Kingsley Cooper,Chairman of the CFIA, said: “This exhibition is really about showing the fashion industry that we have design talent to compete in a global arena."
"The contribution which the islands can make to fashion has gone under the world’s fashion radar for too long," he continued.
Trade and Development agency, Caribbean Export, who are also helping to deliver the event, have said that the timing of the collection works well with the London Olympics in showcasing caribbean talent.
Caribbean Export manager, Chris McNair, said: “It is only fitting that as we prepare to present to the world the Caribbean’s best athletes, we also present our culture and creativity in the form of our fashion."
He added: "We have a fantastic group of designers and hope that everyone will come out and see their work.”
The highly anitcipated exhibition is expected to culminate in a private dinner with fashion and music icon, Grace Jones.
