Celebrate black excellence at Melanin Fest

CELEBRATION: Melanin Fest

WHAT IS Melanin Fest? It's a celebration of black excellence throughout Sheffield and London during the month of October, in conjunction with UK’s Black History Month.

Melanin Fest aims to promote black talent and those inspired by people of colour by centralising black history and culture whilst collaborating with local businesses, venues and raising awareness of specific charities.

The event is also a platform to showcase local talent from the community as well as nationally and educate on the rich and important history of black people through exhibitions, seminars, music events, workshops, film, fashion and theatre.

Melanin Fest recognise that Sheffield and London are both vibrant cities which currently host events for Black History Month, however their aim is to bring all these events together under the banner of ‘Sheffield Melanin Fest 2017 and London Melanin Fest 2017,’ creating a large scale cultural event throughout October as well as the whole year.

Their Black History Month campaign will run across the city, working with various local venues and organisations such as: Showroom Cinema, O2 Academy Sheffield, Frog & Parrot, Sheffield Museums, Sheffield Hallam Student’s Union, Sheffield University Student’s Union, Theatre Deli, Yates, Broomhall Centre and Chapel 35 Walk Gallery, under the banner of ‘Sheffield Melanin Fest 2017’.

London affiliates include The Voice Newspaper, Colourful Radio, ABN Radio, University of Westminster ACS, and the ACS Hub, to name but a few.

Melanin Fest 2017 believe this is a great opportunity for organisations to support, be a part of and help communities understand black culture and history together.
