'Chainsaw 3-D' debuts at number one in US box office

TALENT: Trey Songz stars in Chainsaw 3-D'

IT TOOK 'Leatherface' and his chainsaw to chase tiny hobbit Bilbo Baggins out of the top spot at the US box office.

Studio estimates showed the horror sequel to 1974's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Block-buster Texas Chainsaw 3-D at number one with a $23 million debut.

Quentin Tarantino's slavery revenge saga Django Unchained held on at number two for a second-straight weekend with $20.1 million, raising its domestic total to $106.4 million.

After three weekends at the top, part one of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy slipped to third with $17.5 million.

The figures comes after it was revealed that Hobbitt, which has also topped $500 million overseas revenue, has grossed a total to about $800 million worldwide, making it the most successful film of the year so far.
