TRANSFER TALK: Ba
CHELSEA’S HOPES of signing Newcastle United forward Demba Ba have hit a brick wall after it is alleged that talks between the club and the player’s representatives were ‘unproductive’.
According to the Press Association, Chelsea club officials met with Ba’s representatives on December 30 to discuss a possible deal.
However, it is alleged that contract negotiations could not be reached.
The 27-year-old Ba, who has scored 13 goals in 20 games in the Premier League for the Magpies this season, has a clause in his contract that enables him to leave St James’ Park for just £7m.
Several clubs have been linked with a move for the Senegal international, who signed for Newcastle in the summer of 2011 from West Ham United.
Although the transfer window re-opens on January 1, Chelsea manager Rafa Benitez remained tight-lipped on the matter.
Following Chelsea’ 2-1 win over Everton on December 30, when asked if he that the Blues had been in talks with Ba, Benitez said: “No, because we don't talk about this business, we had a very important game today."
