Chelsea to offload Jon Obi Mikel to Inter

JON OBI Mikel is likely to be on his way out of Chelsea in the summer as the Blues plan an overhaul of the squad that is almost certain to end the season without a trophy.

The 27-year-old midfielder, who joined the west London club in 2006, has been barely used by manager Jose Mourinho this calendar year following the re-signing of Nemaja Matic.

Chelsea are hoping to use Mikel’s sale to boost funds for new signings, including that of a world-class striker.

Inter Milan are reportedly in talks with Mikel’s representatives over a move to the San Siro.

The player’s agent John Shittu said: “What I can tell you is that I met with my client and the [Inter] directors and they are interested in him.

“He is a great player who has won the Champions League and the Africa Cup of Nations, so he is suited to Inter’s standards.

“Inter is a possibility but right now Mikel is a Chelsea player. I cannot tell you anything more on the negotiations. The fact remains that Mikel now has a contract with the Blues.”

Several other Chelsea stars could be leaving too, with the likes of Franks Lampard, Ashley Cole and John Terry seeing their contracts run out in the summer.
