Christine Ohuruogu confirmed for Manchester competition

CHAMP: Ohuruogu

TEAM GB star Christine Ohuruogu has been confirmed to compete at the BT Great CityGames in Manchester this month.

The 29-year-old athlete, who claimed dramatic 400m gold at the World Championships last August, will run her first race in Britain in 2014 on May 17.

Speaking about her upcoming appearance in Manchester, Ohuruogu said: “I love competing in the CityGames.

“The crowd are so close to the action, it is always an exciting event for the athletes and the spectators alike.

“The distance is shorter than what I am used to by a very long way. Still, it’s a great training exercise. Doing a bit of speed work is always handy for the 400m, so I always look forward to doing it and the overall challenge of running against the other athletes at the CityGames.”

She has raced three times before at the Manchester event, but has never claimed victory before.

Ohuruogu has been training in Jamaica as she prepares for the outdoor season, and the runner will be hoping she has the form to win 400m gold at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games that begin in July.
