Chuka Umunna to go for Labour leadership?

THOUGHT LEADER: Labour MP Chuka Umunna

WHISPERS OF a Chuka Umunna Labour leadership bid are swirling after comments the Streatham MP made during an appearance on a weekend news programme.

Talking about the fate of his party on Sky News' Sophy Ridge on Sunday, Umunna said; “I want to play a big role in a future Labour government, how that turns out in the future is anyone's guess,” in response to Ridge's assertion that it sounded as though he were making a "leadership manifesto" speech.

The young MP spoke about the importance of maintaining Labour values and admitted that he and his colleagues "have got to do better" and felt that could be achieved by monitoring more closely "what we're saying to the people".
