Comedian Xavier to perform at Zimbabwe Achievers Awards

FUNN GUY: Xavier

SOCIAL MEDIA phenomenon Ofishal-Xavier has been announced as one of four acts at the Zimbabwe Achievers Awards (ZAA) this weekend

Xavier, who has been nominated for two awards at this year’s ceremony, now joins rising indie/folk sensation Gemma Griffiths and 2007 Live & Unsigned winner Kazz ‘Mr Boomslang’, among other performers in a stellar line-up for the classy black-tie affair.

ZAA entertainment coordinator, Colline Watts, said the organisers were happy about the impending gala and pleased with the entertainment line-up.

“Every year we try to bring something fresh, current and electrifying to the event and this year’s entertainers have lots of charisma, energy and talent, and we are looking forward to what each act is going to bring to the occasion,” said Watts.

Xavier became an overnight sensation after posting comedic sketches on various social media platforms. His fan base catapulted shortly after he posted a video of him screaming from a car “Ngyatshiselwa” (I am feeling hot) in his mother tongue to oblivious onlookers during a heatwave last year. The video garnered so much attention that a video meme was created.

His Facebook page, OfishalXavier, which now boasts more than 12000 followers, has become the go-to-page for a good laugh from the budding comedian.

“I am a firm believer that education is pivotal to success,” he said.

“I am living proof that hard work and determination, coupled with the desire to achieve academically has gotten me where I am today.”

Xavier is currently working on his popular comedy series entitled, Na2lani, where he stars as the matriarchal character. Na2lani follows the story of a feisty Zimbabwean woman trying to raise her son in the UK, albeit, with the challenges that come with it.

Xavier, who is also an upcoming musician, is working on his first EP and is about to drop the video to his latest track Skorokoro (decrepit car).

“I am currently working on my EP and putting the final touches to it. The music video to my latest single ‘Skorokoro’, which simply means decrepit car, is dropping very soon and my production team and I are really excited about this.”

“It will feature a number of artists I have collaborated with and popular tracks Ngyatshiselwa and Check your Balance,” he added.

“I am extremely passionate, focused and determined to succeed in the arts industry with the intent to prove to the world that Southern Africa and Zimbabwe in particular have a wealth of talent,” he said.

Established in 2011, the ZAA is the brainchild of Conrad Mwanza, the Founder and Chairman. The brand has grown over the years and is now well established in South Africa.

Over the next few weeks it is set to be launched in the United States.

The ZAA takes place on May 7 at the Royal Garden hotel in Kensington.
