Court for man accused of defacing Stephen Lawrence memorial

COURT DATE: Man to appear at Bexley Magistrates' Court on November 15, charged with defacing memorial of murdered teenager Stephen Lawrence (pictured)

A MAN is to go to court later this month over allegations he defaced a memorial plaque dedicated to murdered teenage Stephen Lawrence.

Paul Peters, 33, of Kidbrooke in southeast London, is to appear at Bexley Magistrates' Court on November 15, charged with racially aggravated criminal damage.

Peters was taken into custody on October 9, after CCTV captured a man throwing a glass bottle at the memorial plaque in Well Hall Road, Eltham on October 1.

The plaque marks the place where the 18-year-old was stabbed to death during a racist attack in April 1993.

Two men accused of Stephen’s murder are to go on trial next month (Nov 14).
