Dark horses Belgium looking to cash in

PLAYMAKER: Moussa Dembele

BELGIUM'S EMERGENCE has made them dark horses for the World Cup. Their success has been established by a plethora of players plying their trade in the Premier League.

One of those players, Tottenham's Moussa Dembele, is of the opinion that they have to cash in on their so-called 'Golden Generation' which is considered one of the best teams in Europe. The Spurs playmaker is expected to start in the centre of the Belgian midfield against Algeria in their first game next Tuesday.

Dembele said: “The reason you can say we have so many good players all at once in my view is simple - it is just coincidence.

“It is a very nice coincidence and one we have to take advantage of, but for a small country like Belgium to have so many great players in the same era is unusual. To look for the reasons behind it, I don't know.”

Much has been made of the Belgium's improvement and they will be hoping to achieve - or at least match - their best ever World Cup finish, when they reached the semi-finals in 1986.

This year's tournament will only be their 12th appearance at the finals.
