ABUSE TARGET: Turkish fans made racist chants against Drogba

GALATASARAY’S DIDIER Drogba has spoken out against racist Turkish fans who directed abuse toward him in a defeat against city rivals Fenerbahce.

Opposition supporters made monkey noises and were seen waving bananas at Drogba and team-mate Emmanuel Eboue.

Fenerbahce won the match 2-1 on Sunday, with their Cameroon international striker Pierre Webo scoring both goals.

Writing on his team’s Facebook page, Drobga said: “You call me monkey but you cried when Chelsea beat Fenerbahce in 2008, you called me monkey but you jumped in front of your screen when I won the Champions League, you called me monkey but you got mad when I became champion with Galatasaray and the saddest thing is you called me monkey and forgot that you jumped my ‘monkey’ brother [who] scored twice yesterday... And you call yourself a true fan??”

Drogba moved to the Turkish outfit after a short-lived stint in China, playing for Shanghai Shenhua – the first team he joined since he won the Champions League with Chelsea.

The Turkish derby was not only marred by racism; after fans made their way home, a Fenerbahce fan was fatally stabbed, allegedly by a group of Galatasaray supporters.
