Dream Team set to play on British soil

PROMOTING: (l-r) Thomas-Johnson, Sullivan and Dexter

THIRTEEN-TIME OLYMPIC basketball gold medallists USA will face Great Britain in Manchester later this year, prompting the first meeting between the two on British soil.

Manchester City Council in conjunction with the NBA announced today (Tuesday) that tickets are now on sale online.

Global stars such as Kobe Bryant, Derrick Rose and our very own Luol Deng will line up on July 19 for the game which will be played at the Manchester Arena.

Both the men's and women's teams will compete over a two-day period and occurs as part of a three-year partnership with Manchester City Council.

The GB men's team are currently rank 43rd in the world and will face an arduous task when they meet the reigning Olympic gold medallists and current world champions who are nicknamed ‘The Dream Team’.

USA basketball legend Clyde Drexler joined current and former GB players in Manchester to promote the event, promising: "Fans in the UK are in for a real treat when some of the world's best basketball players take to the court."

Drexler, a 10-time All-Star and member of the Basketball Hall of Fame, was joined by GB players Drew Sullivan and Lauren Thomas-Johnson at a special conference in Manchester for the announcement.

In what will prove to be an entertaining fixture, British basketball has a real opportunity to showcase their talent against a world-class opposition, offering fans who missed out on Olympic tickets a chance to see the stars in action.
