East London stabbing victim named

A MAN who was fatally stabbed in Walthamstow, east London, has been named.

O'Neil Irwin, 36, flagged down an officer on patrol in Ulverston Road, near the junction with Forest Road on Monday (May 21). The officer soon discovered he had been stabbed.

First aid was rendered until the London Ambulance Service and London's air ambulance arrived, but O'Neil died at the scene.

A post mortem gave cause of death as a stab wound to the heart.

On Wednesday (May 23) a 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder. He has been bailed pending further enquiries to a south London police station on a date in early July.

An incident room has opened at Lewisham under Detective Chief Inspector Mark Dunne from the Hmicide and Serious Crime Command.
