EDL leader arrested for ‘racial hatred’

THE CO-FOUNDER of the far-right political group, the English Defence League (EDL), has been bailed after being arrested on suspicion of a hate crime.

Kevin Carroll was arrested on January 12 in Luton after posting a message on social media website Facebook that police say had “intent to cause racial hatred”.

“A 43-year-old was arrested on Saturday morning on suspicion of displaying threatening, abusive or insulting written material with intent to cause racial hatred,” said a spokesperson for Bedforshire Police.

Carroll had attempted to become the Bedfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner in November but was unanimously defeated in the polls.
