England netball captain Cookey to miss Glasgow 2014

SERIOUS INJURY has resulted in England netball captain Pamela Cookey having to withdraw from participating in this summer’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The 29-year-old attacker, who plays for Team Bath, ruptured her Achilles during last weekend’s Superleague game against Hertfordshire Mavericks.

In a tweet, she said: “Ruptured Achilles. Devastated doesn't even come close.

“Where there is a will there is a way. I'll be back, more determined than ever!”

A spokesman for the England team said: “Unfortunately, further consultation has confirmed the devastating news that it is likely Pamela will not be fit in time to lead the team this summer.”

Her absence will be a blow to the England team which is looking to be among the medals at the 2014 Commonwealth Games that begin on July 23.
