Facebook Vows No More Ads Targeting Users By Race

FOUNDER: Mark Zuckerberg

FACEBOOK HAS claimed it will no longer advertisers to exclude specific racial and ethnic groups.

An article published by ProPublica reported that advertisers could use Facebook targeting to exclude certain races from ads specific to housing, credit and employment, much to the disappointment of many Facebook users.

This article prompted scrutiny and outrage from civil rights groups including the American Civil Liberties Union.

Erin Egan, Facebook’s chief privacy officer, responded to these claims with a blog post saying; “There are many nondiscriminatory uses of our ethnic affinity solution in these areas, but we have decided that we can best guard against discrimination by suspending these types of ads.”
