Family of Westfield stab victim are ‘distraught’

KILLED: Liam Woodards

THE FAMILY of man who was stabbed to death on June 29 at the Westfields shopping centre in Stratford, east London, have spoken about their anguish that they are suffering.

Nine people have been arrested and appeared at two separate courts after being charged with violent disorder in the relation to Liam Woodards being killed last week.

The 24-year-old was knifed in a suspected gang brawl next to the Olympic Park.

Liam is the brother of Bristol Rovers footballer Danny. Their uncle Mark Woodards today (July 3) said: “Liam was celebrating his birthday. They had a few cocktails and were thinking of going to a club later.

“Suddenly these others just came out of nowhere and started making remarks ... and then it broke out. He is the type that if his mate is in trouble he would go back and help them out.

“Liam’s mum is distraught. She hasn’t slept hardly at all. The family is just completely numb and my son and daughter haven’t stopped crying.”

Mark added: “He was never in any gang or anything like that. He never got involved and told any friends who were to grow up and stop wasting their lives.”

Anyone who can assist police should call the incident room on 020 8345
